Haz-Map

Bericht van de NLM:

'The National Library of Medicine's (NLM) Haz-Map has been updated. 226 new agents in the categories of metals, solvents, pesticides, mineral dusts, toxic gases and vapors, plastics and rubber, nitrogen compounds, and other compounds were added. Haz-Map is an occupational health database designed for health and safety professionals and for consumers seeking information about the health effects of exposure to chemicals and biologicals at work. Haz-Map links jobs and hazardous tasks with occupational diseases and their symptoms.'

' The goal of the new CONSER standard is to create a serial bibliographic record that meets users' needs while reducing the complexity of the records and the time it takes to create and maintain them. NLM participated in the pilot project and found that the new standard will provide a more streamlined and understandable record for our users, as well as save cataloging time.'

Tijdschrift afkortingen bij NLM

NLM gaat de tijdschrift afkortingen aanpassen

Beginning March 1, 2007, NLM will adjust the way it assigns title abbreviations to journals indexed for MEDLINE® and cited in PubMed®. Rather than independently assigning title abbreviations for each title, NLM will accept the abbreviations assigned by the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) Centre and modify the punctuation and capitalization to conform to NLM standards. The ISSN key title abbreviation will be stripped of all punctuation except for parentheses around a title qualifier. The first letter of each word will be capitalized. Subfields will not be included in the abbreviation. The abbreviation used by GenBank (ISO Abbreviation) will follow the same punctuation and capitalization formatting as the NLM title abbreviations. Because NLM uses a single record approach in its cataloging, ISSN qualifiers for specific formats will be dropped.

PubChem IDs in MEDLINE/PubMed

Uit het NLM Technical bulletin:

'Unique Identifiers for records in the PubChem databases [PubChem: An Entrez Database of Small Molecules. NLM Tech Bull. 2005 Jan-Feb;(342):e2.] are now being included in MEDLINE/PubMed records when publishers send the IDs as part of their electronic citation submission to MEDLINE/PubMed. The databases (PubChem Substance, PubChem Compound, and PubChem BioAssay) provide information on the biological activities of small molecules, including substance information, standardized and validated chemical structures, and bioactivity screens'

'An introduction to toxic chemicals and environmental health risks you might encounter in everyday life, in everyday places.'

'What do longshoremen, sunbathers, ship crews, and shrimp lovers have in common? Whether they live on the coast, work in a maritime industry or play on the beach, they can find information about the environment and how it might affect their health at Tox Town’s new Port neighborhood. This imaginary port illustrates drinking water and air quality concerns along with wastewater treatment, shellfish safety, work hazards, sun and surf safety, aquaculture and many other topics. The port also highlights possible locations and descriptions of 26 hazardous chemicals.'

Vivisimo en PubMed

Vivisimo timmert flink aan de weg op dit moment: National Library of Medicine Simplifies Public Access to Health Information with Vivísimo Search Platform.

Hun producten zijn: de demos' ClusterMed and BioMetaCluster,

"ClusterMed is a free demo that uses the Vivisimo Velocity Search Platform to organize PubMed's extensive inventory of medical research articles into dynamic categories that help users easily navigate search results. ClusterMed now allows users to search in a highly intuitive and personalized manner. The Velocity Clustering Engine allows end users to view results organized, or clustered, by topic, author, mesh headings and date. This resource helps regular Pubmed users reduce research time, improve research effectiveness and quickly view an overview on a new or peripheral research area. To view the benefits of ClusterMed try the search query chicken pox, avian flu or baseball."

"The BioMetaCluster demo "highlights Velocity's flexibility in creating data source connectors. BioMetaCluster connects to multiple pharmaceutical and life science specific databases, journals and websites both through federation with Velocity's Content Integrator and through crawls with Velocity's Search Engine. Duplicate results are automatically removed and results are categorized through the Velocity Clustering Engine into a single user interface. End-users also have the ability to save, share and export results as well as set up alerts on topics, authors or clusters of interest. All sources used in BioMetaCluster are publicly available on the web.'

Updated Drug Terminology Tool--RxNav

Bericht van de NLM:

"An updated version of the Web-based browser RxNav is now available to search RxNorm, the NLM database of standard names for clinical drugs that references the names of approximately 17,000 clinical drugs from several sources. RxNav displays graphically links from clinical drugs, both branded and generic, to their active ingredients (e.g., Ibuprofen), drug components (e.g., Ibuprofen 200 MG) and drug forms (Ibuprofen Oral Tablet). It also associates generic with brand names (e.g., Ibuprofen / Advil)."

"Every aspect of the RxNorm database can be queried through RxNav, including the names and codes of drugs and components in the drug resources referenced by RxNorm. Spelling suggestions are offered when no exact match is found in RxNorm for a given input term. RxNav accesses the RxNorm server at NLM, which is updated monthly.

"We hope that our tool makes it easier for physicians and pharmacists to deal with electronic drug prescription and to integrate drug information from various sources," says Dr. Olivier Bodenreider, one of the co-developers of the software."

RxNav is available at: http://mor.nlm.nih.gov/download/rxnav/

De NLM Gateway is vernieuwd

Verslaving TIP toegevoegd aan HSTAT

Uit NLM Technical bulletin:

' The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) has recently added a new SAMHSA/CSAT Treatment Improvement Protocol to the HSTAT collection on the Bookshelf. HSTAT, Health Services/ Technology Assessment Text, is a free, Web-based resource of full-text documents that provide health information and support health care decision making.

Treatment Improvement Protocols (TIPs) are best practice guidelines for the treatment of substance abuse. The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment's (CSAT) Office of Evaluation, Scientific Analysis, and Synthesis draws on the experience and knowledge of clinical, research, and administrative experts to produce the TIPs, which are distributed to a growing number of facilities and individuals across the country. The audience for the TIPs is expanding beyond public and private substance abuse treatment facilities as alcohol and other drug disorders are increasingly recognized as a major problem.

45. Detoxification and Substance Abuse Treatment'

Is the Institutional Share conflicting with MyNCBI? (PubMed)

Zie Digicmb "Yesterday I (and Geert Lobbestael, Medical Library AMC) mailed the PubMed helpdesk to ask about the errors I -and our users- keep getting when using our link to PubMed WITH the Institutional Share option of Filters & Outside Tools together with their own personal MyNCB-accounts. "

RSS Feeds for PubMed's® New/Noteworthy

Uit: NLM Technical bulletin, June 07, 2006:

' NCBI is now offering RSS 2.0 (Really Simple Syndication) feeds for PubMed's New/Noteworthy. Instructions for setting up the feed are available from the newly redesigned New/Noteworthy Web site.

RSS is a Web standard for sharing and distributing news and other frequently updated content provided by Web sites. The New/Noteworthy feed will alert you when there is a change or update to PubMed, Journals, or the MeSH databases.

RSS feeds are also available for PubMed searches'

PubMed tutorial is geactualiseerd
