In de VU Nieuwsbrief werd er al een keer naar verwezen.
Permanente links naar Pubmedreferenties kan nu via het PMID nummer: Voorbeeld: http://pubmed.gov/16586261
Dat is niet zo moeilijk te onthouden. Omdat ik vandaag wilde attenderen op een belangrijk artikel (en ook vastleggen) over overgewicht bij antidepressiva en we op dit tijdschrift zelf een abonnement hebben, wilde ik de link met onze Linkout gebruiken. Dan kun je gelijk doorklikken naar de full text. Een collega tipte me daar al eerder over, maar ik was vergeten waar het nummer precies in de linkout moest staan.
Welnu, dat is in ons geval:
Dus tussen entrez en query met aan het begin en eind een slash.
Je kunt ze ook als vaste links gebruiken bij de publicaties van de medewerkers.
Artikelen vinden van vóór 1949
Ook deze vraag is een keer op de ClinLib-lijst gesteld. Oldmedline, inmiddels opgenomen in de PubMed gaat terug tot 1949. (Ze bevatten geen abstract).

Free articles in Pubmed
Een tijdje geleden (november 2008) werd er al op Clinlib-lijst over bericht. De handige groene /oranje balkjes in de icoontjes als teken van FREE Pubmed-referenties zijn verdwenen.Omdat Pubmed voortdurend veranderingen doorvoert was de kans groot dat deze ingreep teniet zou worden gedaan. Dit is helaas niet gebeurd.
In de summary weergave stond nog wel in groen vermeld als het free te raadplegen is in Pubmed Central. Maar dat was natuurlijk een flinke inperking.
Inmiddels is ook dit probleem weer opgelost. Ook in groen wordt vermeld als het artikel op de site van een uitgever free te raadplegen is.
Handige tool: Hubmed
Hubmed is een van de alternatieven die voor het zoeken in Pubmed door specialisten is ontwikkeld. In eerste instantie voor het snel vinden van RSS-titels over een bepaald onderwerp, maar inmiddels is die optie ook ingebouwd in Pubmed zelf. Maar hij heeft nog wel een handige optie. Tegenwoordig zijn publicatielijsten van medewerkers makkelijk op te bouwen via de PMID-nummers in Pubmed. Deze geven permanente links naar pubmedreferenties: http://pubmed.gov/17848828 of nog handiger, je eigen Pubmedlink daarvoor gebruiken, in mijn geval: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez/17848828/query.fcgi?myncbishare=ggztoegang&holding=inlvvgilib
Onderstaande tip is van Marli en Godelieve: Om van een literatuurlijst in een Word document de verwijzing naar Pubmed te maken kun je gebruikmaken van http://www.hubmed.org/citation.htm . Door deze lijst te kopiëren en te plakken kun je "met één druk op de knop" de PMID-nummers oproepen en toevoegen op de publicatielijst van je instelling.
Problemen met Pubmed
Pubmed werk al geruime tijd zeer traag. Daarnaast hebben degenen die op het netwerk werken met IE versie 6 (zoals ondergetekende) nog steeds problemen met de back-toets. Als je daar op klikt vlieg je eruit. Vandaag zijn op de CCZ-discussielijst een aantal oplossingen aangedragen. De belangrijkste staat bovenaan en heb ik doorgestuurd naar ICT, misschien dat die soelaas oplevert:Resolving page expired message in PubMed
PubMed na de back-toets: met F5 of Ctr-F5 je scherm verversen, dan kom je weer terug waar je was. (werkt gedeeltelijk, je komt ook vaker uit in het startscherm)
Rechtsklikken op de titel. Kiezen voor openen in nieuw venster. Dan blijft de zoeklijst gewoon open staan en kun je weer terug...
Shift ingedrukt houden als je op link klikt dan opent de pagina ook in een nieuw venster.
Kortom: Volgens Sjors zou het inbouwen van een knop om naar het vorige / volgende artikel te gaan en/of terug naar de zoekresultaten te gaan geen overbodige luxe zijn. En blijft het irritant dat de linker blauwe balk elke keer verdwijnt. Of zoals een ander het formuleerde: een staaltje slordig programmeren van PubMed
Ebsco-informatiedag en lezing Focuss.Info
Over de Ebsco-informatie dag op 15 april is al op diverse blogs verslag gedaan. Ik ga dat hier niet allemaal herhalen.
Maar de lezing van Michel Wesseling over Focuss.Info (over ontwikkelingssamenwerking van het ISS) vond ik wel erg boeiend. Zij combineren Google CSE met social bookmarking en de site wordt onderhouden door zowel informatieprofessionals als onderzoekers. (zie ook Informatieprofessional nr. 1, 2008). In een ver verleden zijn er ook al eens pogingen gegaan om medische internetbronnen te ontsluiten, vergelijk met Dutchess, maar deze initiatieven zijn doodgebloed.
Misschien biedt dit een nieuwe kans of kan het BMI-bestuur (of de besturen van de afzonderlijke werkgroepen) zich erover buigen? Aan de technologie is men geen tijd kwijt, en bij Focuss.Info is alleen voor de PR voor een half dagdeel een fte aangesteld.
NB. Ook Ingressus is met dit concept, maar dan in een andere vorm en op een commerciele manier aan de slag gegaan.
Veranderingen bij NLM/MeSH
Voor de liefhebbers van MeSH onder ons: de NLM heeft op 24 april j.l. weer een nieuwe update gepubliceerd. Zie voor de onlineversie op: http://wwwcf.nlm.nih.gov/class/.“Twenty-six new class numbers were added to the schedules and seventy-one MeSH terms were added to the index, including forty-one new to the MeSH vocabulary as of 2008; in addition, forty-eight schedule records and four hundred and forty-four index entries were updated since the 2007 edition was published on April 19, 2007.” Gelezen via de MEDBIB-lijst.
Pubmed versus Google Scholar
In het oktober nummer van J med Libr Assoc 2007 stond een artikel over "Comparing test searches in Pubmed and Google Scholar van Mary Schultz. Inzicht in de verschillen alsook het toevoegen van Google Scholar bij de bibliotheekinstructie wordt aanbevolen. Google Scholar is handig om mee te beginnen, je vindt er oudere citaties en last but not least grijze literatuur. Het is echter geen vervanging van de Pubmed met zijn MESH-terms, maar moet gezien worden als complementair (anno 2007) .Juist van de voordelen van deze MESH-terms was Geert van der Heijden, spreker op de BMI-dag van 18 april niet helemaal overtuigd. Opgaan DAREnet in NARCIS
In januari 2007 heeft de KNAW DAREnet van SURF overgenomen, met de bedoeling deze portal te integreren in de wetenschapsportal NARCIS. Het afgelopen jaar is hard gewerkt aan deze integratie. Integratie wil echter niet zeggen, dat alle functionaliteiten van DAREnet precies zo weer terug komen in NARCIS; soms zijn andere keuzen gemaakt. Op 1 april heeft een nieuwe release van NARCIS plaatsgevonden. Naast nieuwe functionaliteiten is een apart 'DAREnet tabblad' opgenomen, waarbij men kan zoeken in de full text publicaties afkomstig van alle Nederlandse universiteiten, KNAW, NWO en enkele onderzoeksinstellingen.
Censuur?
De afgelopen dagen is er op de Amerikaanse discussielijst voor medisch bibliothecarissen behoorlijk gediscussieerd over Popline, een bibliografische databank over voortplanting en aanverwante onderwerpen. Het woord "abortus" werd afgelopen vrijdag (4 april 2008) namelijk een stopwoord, er kon dus niet meer op gezocht worden! Een maatregel waarvan de reden nogal onduidelijk was maar nadat er een hoop bibliothecarissen en vertegenwoordigers van de wetenschappelijke wereld over deze maatregel vielen is hij op 7 april weer teruggedraaid. Uiteindelijk bleek de maatregel een wat overhaaste actie te zijn die voortkwam uit een klacht over twee artikelen in de database die geschreven waren vanuit een te positieve houding over abortus. En dat kan dus niet in het Bushklimaat in de VS. De twee artikelen zijn verwijderd maar je kunt dus nu wel weer zoeken op het onderwerp (van 25000 naar 0 artikelen en weer terug in drie dagen. Wel een goed voorbeeld over de invloed die je als bibliothecaris toch kunt hebben op de beschikbaarheid van informatie. Ik vond het in elk geval wel leuk om met jullie te delen.Video-collectie Trimbos weer toegankelijk
Vanaf 1 januari 2008 heeft het Dolhuys (Museum voor de psychiatrie) deze collectie in haar bezit.
Het gaat om een collectie van circa 750 videobanden op het terrein van de GGZ en de verslavingszorg uit de periode 1980-2000. Wegens bezuinigingen heeft het Trimbos-instituut deze collectie in het verleden afgestaan (naar nu blijkt in bruikleen dus) aan Vlaamse Vereniging voor Volksgezondheid (VVGG) te Gent.
De collectie is toegankelijk via de mediatheek. Banden zijn te koop tegen kostprijs (20 euro, excl. BTW en verzendkosten) op video of dvd via mediatheek@hetdolhuys.nl

OvidSP
Over OvidSP is door Deet'jes in haar weblog al een en ander geschreven. Het zoeken daarin met de Basic Search is niet zozeer lastig als wel ondoorgrondelijk (Natural Language zoeken, relevance ranking en met een vertaalslag naar concepten). Ook ik heb vreemde resultaten in de Basic Search mode gekregen bij het opvragen van een trefwoord dat bijna identiek is (enkelvoud vs. meervoud), met en zonder Related Terms. Beide termen blijken nu, als Related Terms niet wordt aangevinkt, op een verschillende manier te worden omgezet in een concept (parshing), wat het verschil in resultaat zou verklaren, maar wat niet zou mogen. Ovid buigt zich hier verder over.
Ook elders in de wereld wordt met OvidSP geworsteld. Dean Guistini, University of British Columbia, is op zijn blog begonnen met sterke en zwakke punten van OvidSP te verzamelen. Als zwak punt wordt onder meer de slechte reproduceerbaarheid van de resultaten in de Basic Search mode genoemd.
In de blog A feed is born wordt ingegaan op de mogelijkheid om RSS feeds via OvidSP aan te maken, maar dit is ook niet zonder problemen.
Yale University School of Medicine heeft inmiddels een aantal tutorials op het internet gezet, zowel over het gebruik van OvidSP als over het PICO model en MeSH.
Ovid's Resource of the Month Embase Classic bedroevend slecht
Ovid's resource of the month bleek deze keer Embase Classic te zijn. Dat leek een hele interessante, ik heb me dan ook geregistreerd voor toegang, en vervolgens de inhoud bekeken aan de hand van een steekproef van 93 artikelen (zoekactie "antonius" in het adresveld).
Omdat dit onze eigen publicaties zijn, wij de auteursnamen kennen / herkennen, en een aantal referenties al in ons repository hebben zitten, was het heel makkelijk om te checken in hoeverre de resultaten correct zijn.
De kwaliteit van de zoekresultaten was schokkend slecht. Wij hebben de lijst van 93 heel snel gescreened, en vonden daarbij al 21 citaties met heel zichtbare, vaak heel grove fouten. Meer in detail screenen zal dat alleen nog maar erger maken ben ik bang.
Fouten die we tegen kwamen zijn bijvoorbeeld :
- verhaspelde auteursnamen : "Laros CD" wordt "Lams CD"
- paginanummers die absoluut niet kunnen kloppen : bv "Respiration 29(1)3038-3039". Zo dik is issue 1 nooit.
- verhaspelde tijdschriftnamen : Respitation ipv Respiration, en "Ned.T.Ginexsk" ipv "Ned T Geneesk" (neem ik tenminste aan)
- verhaspelde titels, de ergste luidt "rupture ol the cecum in item of the coton"
- gelukkig (!?) komen er heel veel duplicaten in het bestand voor ( we vonden er 7 in onze lijst), en komt de juiste titel ook voor : "rupture of the cecum in ileus of the colon"
- verschuivingen van tijdschrifttitelwoorden naar artikel titel : "on disturbances of blood circulation in infectious diseases Arztliche" in tijdschrift "Wochenschrift".
Wat ons betreft is Embase Classic een absoluut onbetrouwbare database, en in geen geval een interessant aanvulling.

MeshPubMed en GoPubmed
MeshPubMed en GoPubmed ('Ontology-based' zoeken) zijn ontwikkeld door Michael Schroeder en zijn team (Technical University of Dresden en Transinsight). Het is wel grappig dat je ze ook al in de Wikipedia kunt vinden:
MeshPubMed is together with GoPubMed a knowledge-based search engine for biomedical texts. The Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) serve as "Table of contents" in order to structure the over 16 million articles of the MEDLINE data base. The search engine allows Medical Doctors (and Biologists) to find relevant search results significantly faster.
The technologies used in MeshPubMed are generic and can in general be applied to any kind of texts and any kind of knowledge bases. MeshPubMed is one of the first Web 2.0 search engines.

'The term "Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM)" covers a variety of approaches to medical theory and practice, which are not commonly accepted by representatives of conventional medicine. In the past two decades, these approaches have been studied in various areas of medicine. Although there appears to be a growing number of scientific publications on CAM, the complete spectrum of complementary therapies still requires more information about published evidence. A majority of these research publications are still not listed in electronic bibliographical databases such as MEDLINE. However, with a growing demand by patients for such therapies, physicians increasingly need an overview of scientific publications on CAM. Bearing this in mind, CAMbase, a bibliographical database on CAM was launched in order to close this gap. It can be accessed online free of charge or additional costs.The user can peruse more than 80,000 records from over 30 journals and periodicals on CAM, which are stored in CAMbase. A special search engine performing syntactical and semantical analysis of textual phrases allows the user quickly to find relevant bibliographical information on CAM. Between August 2003 and July 2006, 43,299 search queries, an average of 38 search queries per day, were registered focussing on CAM topics such as acupuncture, cancer or general safety aspects. Analysis of the requests led to the conclusion that CAMbase is not only used by scientists and researchers but also by physicians and patients who want to find out more about CAM.Closely related to this effort is our aim to establish a modern library center on Complementary Medicine which offers the complete spectrum of a modern digital library including a document delivery-service for physicians, therapists, scientists and researchers.'

Relemed
Relemed: Sentence-level search engine with relevance score for the MEDLINE database of biomedical articles. BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making 2007, 7:1“We have developed Relemed, a search engine for MEDLINE. Relemed increases specificity and precision of retrieval by searching for query words within sentences rather than the whole article. It uses sentence-level concurrence as a statistical surrogate for the existence of relationship between the words. It also estimates a relevance score and sorts the results on this basis, thus shifting irrelevant articles lower down the list. In two case studies, we demonstrate that the most relevant articles appear at the top of the Relemed results, while this is not necessarily the case with a PubMed search. We have also shown that a Relemed search includes not only all the articles retrieved by PubMed, but potentially additional relevant articles, due to the extended automatic term mapping and text-word searching features implemented in Relemed.
Conclusions
By using
sentence-level matching, Relemed can deliver higher specificity, thus
eliminating more false-positive articles. By introducing an appropriate
relevance metric, the most relevant articles on which the user wishes
to focus are listed first. Relemed also shrinks the displayed text, and
hence the time spent scanning the articles."

The definitive Maternity and Infant Care database from MIDIRS (Midwives Information and Resource Service). Maternity and Infant Care is an important essential resource for academics and healthcare professionals involved in the care of women and infants. dbGaP, a Database of Genome Wide Association Studies
Press release: NIH Launches dbGaP, a Database of Genome Wide Association Studies'The National Library of Medicine (NLM), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), announces the introduction of dbGaP, a new database designed to archive and distribute data from genome wide association (GWA) studies. GWA studies explore the association between specific genes (genotype information) and observable traits, such as blood pressure and weight, or the presence or absence of a disease or condition (phenotype information). Connecting phenotype and genotype data provides information about the genes that may be involved in a disease process or condition, which can be critical for better understanding the disease and for developing new diagnostic methods and treatments.'

Marcus Zillman heeft voor de medische onderwerpen kortgeleden een Healthcare Resources themanummer van Awareness Watch™ Newsletter V4N12 december 2006 uitgegeven.
Daarnaast heeft hij nog een aardige Miniguide samengesteld in 2004 die hij net heeft ge-updated: ' Academic and Scholar Search Engines and Sources'.
Het biedt veel ingangen naar bronnen op allerlei terrein.

IFPMA clinical trials portal
De IFPMA 'clinical trials portal' zoekmachine is gelanceerd begin dit jaar. 'This service is provided by the IFPMA, on behalf of its Member Companies and Associations. The portal has been designed as a single entry allowing you to search for comprehensive information on on-going clinical trials (registry) or results of completed trials (database) conducted by the innovative pharmaceutical industry.'
Krafty schreeft erover in april 2006: op dat moment was een recente trial (naar PolyHeme) niet te vinden, behalve bij de 'ongoing trials'. Nu, november 2006 is dat nog steeds hetzelfde.
Beperkt nuttig dus.
Overigens kom ik ermee, omdat Zsana erover schreef: het is me wel een beetje onduidelijk wat je er als publiek mee moet, met zo'n zoekmachine. Dan zijn er nog wal andere aan te bevelen.
ROAR: Registry of Open Access Repositories
Registry of Open Access Repositories is een verzameling open Acces Repositories, die je kunt doorzoeken met een enkele zoekmachine. Er zijn wat verfijningen op: beperken tot geografische locatie ed. Ze hebben nu ook een Google SCE toegevoegd aan hun collectie.
'his registry has two functions: (1) to monitor overall growth in the number of eprint archives and (2) to maintain a list of GNU EPrints sites (the software Southampton University has designed to facilitate self-archiving).'
Het is een handige bron, hun startpagina is wat rommelig, dit is de link naar de Google zoekmachine , en de link naar de ROAR CSE.
Verzameling databases
Neurotransmitter.net heeft een grote hoeveelheid informatie verzameld in een WIKI.
Een van de interessante dingen die ze presenteren is de MetaDB: a metadatabase for the biological sciences:
'The MetaDB metadatabase is a sorted, searchable collection of biological databases. Most entries in the metadatabase include a relevant peer-reviewed abstract or excerpt along with a link to the abstract or full text article. Database descriptions surrounded by quotation marks were borrowed from the database websites.'
Als onderdeel van de MetaDB hebben ze een mooie verzameling ' Medline interfaces' .

Zoals Stewart Brower al aankondigde: hij is begonnen met een Wiki geneesmiddelen info: PubDrug. (zie over de lancering zijn log).

HBO kennisbank
Op de OCN is gepresenteerd de: HBO Kennisbank, een nieuw onderdeel van DAREnet
| Ieder jaar produceren studenten, docenten en lectoren van de hogescholen in
Nederland duizenden scripties, onderzoeken, afstudeerverslagen, papers en
artikelen. Het kapitaal aan kennis dat hierin opgeslagen is, wordt in de HBO Kennisbank digitaal beschikbaar gesteld aan geïnteresseerden van over de hele wereld. De HBO Kennisbank maakt de producten van de hogescholen eenvoudig te vinden en gemakkelijk toegankelijk. Tot medio 2007 worden vooral scripties opgenomen van zeven hogescholen. Het is de bedoeling in de loop van 2007 ook ander materiaal op te slaan. Dan zullen ook meerdere hogescholen hun producten via de HBO Kennisbank publiceren. |
Wat een goed idee: het was altijd bijzonder lastig om scripties te vinden, en heel jammer dat al dat werk zo verloren ging.
PubChem
Naast de alom bekende PubMed heb je ook PubChem: '...provides information on the biological activities of small molecules. It is a component of NIH's Molecular Libraries Roadmap Initiative.'Thomson Scientific heeft aangekondigd dat de ruim 2 miljoen chemische structuren van Thomson Pharma ook daarin gestort gaan worden :-)
En daarmee dus ook vrij doorzoekbaar worden.
"UpToDate Uproar"
De medlib discussielijst volg ik al lang niet meer, maar af en toe heb ik daar toch spijt van. Zo blijkt daar een hevige "oproer" te zijn ontstaan over UpToDate en zijn buitensporige licentiepolitiek.
Gelukkig zijn er collega's die die discussie netjes voor ons samenvatten. Op de blog van de Krafty librarian staat nu dus een heel betoog over UTD, inclusief een aantal waanzinnige voorbeelden van prijsstellingen, maar ook met wat vergelijkingen van alternatieven als FirstConsult, Dynamed en eMedicine (die laatste ken ik eerlijk gezegd niet).
Betoog is uit het hart gegrepen!
Wiki geneesmiddelendatabase op komst
Als vervolg op de Medizendium oproep van Dean, kondigt Stewart Brower in An open access call to arms, (Professional Notes) een Open acces database op het gebied van geneesmiddelen aan. In Wiki vorm.
"Potentially, it will be able to be harnessed as an alternative to
pricey clinical drug information systems and online formularies, while
doubling as a drug education aid for information literacy efforts."
NARCIS
Toen ik vandaag de Informatie Professional doorlas, stuitte ik op het artikeltje over NARCIS (National Academic Research and Collaborations Information System), een project waar Arjan Hogenaar, bij (oudgediende) BMI-ers wel bekend, mee bezig is.
Ik moet wel bekennnen dat de onderzoeksinformatie voor mij, een niet-universitaire informatie specialist, inmiddels een woud van verwarring aan het worden was , en bovendien een beetje dubbelop allemaal:
- de Nederlandse Onderzoeks Databank (NOD)
- DAREnet (Digital Academic REpositories)
- METIS: zie bv info van: Utrecht / Groningen
Wat moet je nou wanneer waar vinden?
De KNAW probeert te verduidelijken: 'Door een aantal METIS systemen (universitaire informatiesystemen) wordt voor Onderzoekers en Organisaties een unieke METIS-code meegeleverd. Op basis van deze code is het mogelijk om vanuit de Nederlandse Onderzoek Databank (NOD) door te linken naar de betreffende publicatielijst' .
OK.
Kan dat dan niet in een systeem vraag je je in je onschuld af 
.
Maar nu is daar dus Narcis: de centrale verzamelplaats van onderzoeksinformatie uit Nederland, een systeem voor het vullen van repositories en het vastleggen van onderzoeksinformatie.
Als gebruiker kan ik alleen maar zeggen: ja graagl

Deze maand heb je bij Ovid gratis toegang tot: 'CAB Abstracts', en 'CAB Archive' en 'Drugline'. Je hoeft je alleen maar te registreren en je kunt ze uitproberen.

| Drugline on SilverPlatter
Drugline contains evaluated drug information representing responses from clinical pharmacologists to specific patient cases. It is produced by the Karolic, Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Karolinska University Hospital in cooperation with the regional drug information centers in Sweden, Odense in Denmark and Turku in Finland. The database is indexed using the MESH thesaurus. Currently the database contains 12691 records in English & Swedish. The database originates from the answers to complex clinical questions posed by physicians. An extensive literature search is carried out and answers to the questions are produced after discussion by a team of specialists. Questions cover side effects, teratogenicity, feasibility of nursing by drug-treated mothers, kinetics, drug interactions, pharmacy, therapy and choice of drugs |
Linkout icoontje bij PubMed verdwenen
Sinds gisteren blijken de Linkout iconen in PubMed verdwenen te zijn. In plaats van het icoontje dat je hebt "ge-uploaded", verschijnt nu alleen maar de tekst "Click here to read". Die link doet het overigens wel gewoon.
Diverse Amerikaanse collega's melden op de discussielijst dat ze het probleem gemeld hebben bij de NLM. Hopelijk dus snel weer reparatie.
BSL Vakbibliotheek
BSL heeft intern besloten dat om de ondersteuning van de online vakbibliotheek kan gebeuren vanuit het kantoor in Houten door de afdeling klantenservice.
De functie van Anne-Mieke Wiss vervalt per 1 oktober. Ik hoop dat ze snel een andere leuke baan kan vinden. Tegelijkertijd hoop ik dat de bibliotheken voldoende ondersteuning en feedback op vragen krijgen van de klantenservice.

Global trial bank GTB
' PLoS clinical trials' gaat samenwerken met de Global Trial Bank (GTB). GTB is een project van de American Medical Informatics Association AMIAA met als doel de wereld grootste 'peer-reviewed' repository te worden van allerlei soorten protocollen en resultaten van clinical trials. Als GTB eenmaal operationeel is, zal de data via PLoS Clinical Trials toegankelijk worden voor open-access searching, browsing, en data-mining.

De ' Heirs' is een belangrijkste bibliografie van gedrukte werken op het gebied van de geschiedenis van de geneeskunde.
De online versie bevat het tekstuele deel daarvan: het kan de gedrukte versie niet vervangen want het bevat geen afbeeldingen, maar wel een full-text doorzoekbare collectie medisch-historische teksten. Je kunt zoeken op allerlei medische termen, maar ook op auteurs, het resultaat wordt chronologisch gegeven.
De site wordt beschikbaar gesteld door de Hardin Library for the Health Sciences, van de University of Iowa.
FELICS gaat een aantal biologische databanken gratis toegankelijk maken
Het EBI (European Bioinformatics Institute) krijgt 16,7 miljoen euro van de Europese Unie om enkele belangrijke biologische databanken gratis toegankelijk te maken in het kader van het Europese project FELICS (Free European Life-science Information and Computational Services).
Niet alleen databanken van het EBI zelf, maar ook ' die van andere organisaties, zoals BRENDA (enzymendatabank), CheBi (Chemical Entities of Biological Interest) en patenten.
Het EBI werkt hiervoor samen met het EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory), het SIB (Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics), de Universiteit van Keulen en het European Patent Office.'
International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA) : in mei 2006 gratis toegang
Ovid heeft een 'database-van-de-maand' programma: een combinatie van twee heel verschillende databases waar je, gedurende de lopende maand, gratis online toegang toe krijgt.
In mei is dat de IPA: International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA) en de International Construction Database (ICONDA).
Je moet je wel eerst even registreren.
Neuroscience gateway
De Nature Publishing Group en het Allen Institute for Brain Science geven samen de Neuroscience Gateway uit: een ' Open access' bron met research nieuws.
De gateway bevat ook de Allen Brain Atlas: ' a freely available scientific resource developed by the Allen Institute, which provides maps of the expression of approximately 20,000 genes in the mouse brain.'

Homeopathie online
Laat het de Stichting Skepsis maar niet horen, maar de Taubman Medical Library van de University of Michigan is bezig met het scannen van de 500 items van hun homeopathie collectie, en zet ze full-text, per pagina, op het net. Een paar steekproeven leveren voornamelijk oude teksten op (maar dat heb je vanzelf als je ' Hahnemann' als trefwoord neemt) met leuke ouderwetse plaatjes.
Het is een collectie van ca 1850 tot nu, met als bijzonder onderdeel een collectie van 1075 pamfletten op het gebied van de geschiedenis van de homeopathie.

Nationale Proefschriften Site

' DAREnet lanceert een 'Nationale Proefschriften Site', waarin 9000 dissertaties toegankelijk en doorzoekbaar zijn.
Met de Nationale Proefschriften Site hoopt DAREnet het promotieonderzoek in Nederland wereldwijd op de kaart te zetten. Per jaar verschijnen in Nederland zo'n 2500 proefschriften. Dat is ongeveer vijf procent van de jaarlijkse wetenschappelijke output. Steeds vaker zijn deze proefschriften ook digitaal beschikbaar. Bijna 9000 van deze digitale proefschriften zijn nu via één ingang toegankelijk en doorzoekbaar.'

Krafty librarian post over CINAHL: eerdaags is deze niet meer beschikbaar via Ovid, nog wel bij EBSCO (waarschijnlijk):

Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed)
A peer-reviewed and fully referenced database of drugs to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. Among the data included are maternal and infant levels of drugs, possible effects on breastfed infants and on lactation, and alternate drugs to consider.
